Hayward

Hayward, California, is the sixth largest city within the San Francisco Bay Area with a population of over 144,000 residents. This city boasts some of the biggest companies within Alameda County, too, many of which are centered around education. You can find over 1,000 employees at the Hayward Unified School District, California State University at East Bay, and Kaiser Permanente. There are also many other businesses in this area. You can find a lot of sources for entertainment here, too, if you are looking for things to do. There are art galleries, stores, restaurants, and a movie theater. This city encompasses over 60 square miles, most of which are actually on the water. The city was named after William Hayward, the Alameda County supervisor at one point, and was originally called “Haywards.” The “s” was dropped from the official name in 1910. Hayward has remained a busy residential area for quite some time and is continuing to grow in size. This city hosts about 2,300 people per square mile, so it is a fairly densely populated area, despite only being the third biggest city in Alameda County.
