Alameda

Alameda, California, is sometimes known as the Island City because of its location in the San Francisco Bay. It is in Alameda County and has a population of about 73,000 residents. This city was founded in the 1850s and has been a charter city since 1916. According to census reports, the city itself spreads out over about 23 square miles and much of this area is actually water, thanks to the marshy area that surrounds Alameda Island.

Alameda has plenty of businesses despite its island vicinity. UT Starcom is the city’s biggest employer with well over 2,000 employees, but there are many other big businesses in the area, too.

In Alameda, there is a very big boating community. In fact, Bay Ship and Yacht is a big employer in this community. There is also a big windsurfing attraction here.

One of the great things about Alameda is that it is a small community with easy access to the big cities. You can see the San Francisco skyline from portions of this city, but you can still enjoy the island life and the small town feel while you reside or visit here. This is a great place to live in itself, but there are also big destinations nearby.
